Discord Now Requires All Users to Verify Their Real Age

All Discord users will now have to verify their real age. Previously, this feature was only available to users in Australia and the UK, where there are laws requiring age verification. Starting in March, all users will have to verify their age and if they fail to do so, their account will be set as a minor, meaning that certain content will no longer be accessible based on age.

To verify their age, users will need to take a selfie or submit a government-certified ID photo to Discord. As an additional security measure, Discord will also analyze conversation patterns to verify their real age in cases where underage users are using an adult's identity. Discord said selfies are stored on users' devices while ID photos will be deleted by vendors after age verification to maintain privacy.

Restrictions on underage users have become a popular trend in 2026 since Australia introduced them last December. Malaysia, the UK, France and Sweden are among those that will ban individuals under the age of 16 from accessing social media platforms on the grounds of protecting their safety online.
