Hideki Sato, Designer of All Sega Consoles, Dies

There are gamers who grew up with Nintendo. Many of my readers are sure to have grown up with PlayStation. I am someone who grew up with Sega consoles and I still own three of the four consoles produced. The Sega SG-1000 (Master System), Mega Drive (Genesis), Saturn and Dreamcast are four consoles produced by Sega, each of which was designed by Hideki Sato. On February 13, Hideki Sato passed away at the age of 77.

The late Sato joined Sega in 1971 as an engineer before being appointed as the company's Acting President between 2001 and 2003 before resigning in 2008. In the early stages, he was involved in the development of arcade machines, which were Sega's main business. When he saw Nintendo's success in the home console market, Sega entered the same market with the SG-1000 designed by Sato.

Sato and his team used their experience in producing arcades to produce the Mega Drive, Saturn and Dreamcast. Sega's involvement in the console market in 2001 after only 18 years. However, Hideki Sato's great contribution cannot be denied. Without his console I might not have known Sonic, Streets of Rage, Crazy Taxi and House of The Dead.
