OpenAI Is Developing Smart Glasses, Speakers, and Lights

The first physical device to be launched by OpenAI is believed to be a pendant because Sam Altman and Jony Ive are not interested in making smartphones. The Information now reports that in addition to the pendant, OpenAI is also developing smart glasses, speakers, and lights.

A total of 200 OpenAI employees are assigned to develop all of these devices. The smart speaker under development is targeting a sales price of between $200-$300 each and it may be launched in February 2027. It will be equipped with a camera to allow it to see the user's surroundings. This is similar to the features of the Google Nest and Amazon Echo smart speakers.

The camera also has facial recognition features for different users and verification before making a purchase like the Face ID system. In addition, the camera can track the user's habits to provide recommendations for sleeping if there are activities the next day.

Not much information about the smart glasses and lights is only said that the glasses will only be launched in 2028 at the earliest. AI-powered hardware will be the next battleground for various manufacturers. Smart glasses are the most interesting because they will free people from having to look at their phone screens all the time.
