Recently, reports emerged that Realme employees in India have begun to be laid off, including sales, management and physical store employees. According to sources, this step was taken because Realme's operational structure is now fully under Oppo. This later caught the attention of Realme and the company came out to provide an official explanation.
Realme confirmed that there has indeed been a process of layoffs but stressed that it is not a result of the re-merger process with Oppo. On the contrary, according to a Realme spokesperson to Business Today India, the staff reduction is part of an internal restructuring effort (organizational optimization) that is in line with industry norms.
Realme also stressed that its products, retail network and service commitments will not be affected. In fact, the company stressed its continued commitment to the Indian market with a mission to make technology more accessible and create long-term value for millions of users. In addition, Realme did not disclose the scale of the workforce cuts or the departments involved.
However, the source's report stated that the initial round of layoffs affected the sales and support teams. Meanwhile, employees have also been informed about the restructuring process. Affected employees have been asked to resign by April 30, 2026, while the possibility of additional workforce reductions in other departments remains open.
Realme has also tried its best to distance the issue of layoffs from being linked to the re-merger with Oppo, where Realme began operating as a sub-brand last month. Speculation has arisen that the move could lead to workforce reductions due to the re-merger. However, the company has stressed that these adjustments are not related to any other brands.
