Yuhuai (Tony)Wu and Jimmy Ba, the two founders of xAI, announced their resignations from the company early this morning. No reason was given, but both thanked Elon Musk and said Wu was ready to start a new chapter in his life.
Like OpenAI, xAI has also had its share of founder and early employee resignations. Only 6 of the 12 xAI founders remain with the company, which was absorbed into SpaceX last week. Among those who also left the company last year was Igor Babuschkin, who was xAI's head of engineering and was previously the lead developer of AlphaStar at Google DeepMind.
With AI technology now receiving investor attention, many researchers and data scientists are taking the opportunity to start their own companies. Yann LeCun left Meta Super Intelligence Labs to develop advanced machine intelligence (AMI), which he says is more useful than developing an LLM to achieve AGI.
