In Malaysia, it was also two weeks ago when the speed of artificial intelligence (AI) generation reached the top of the iTunes charts. It opened up a debate about human talent and who owns the copyright. On other streaming platforms, dozens of AI-generated songs are now uploaded every year without labels. Apple Music is taking a different step by introducing labels for AI-generated content.
Musicians can label album art, lyricists, entire songs and music videos generated using AI. This is through the identification of metadata entered by the owner himself. There is no automatic system to detect AI-generated content. Therefore, the door is still open for this AI-generated work to be offered on Apple Music without being properly labeled.
AI content is widely accessible in Malaysia. It has been used in local music productions, TV series and films despite receiving public criticism. We already have AI radio DJs and TV presenters. Unfortunately, this Pandora's Box of AI content has been released to the world and the act of labeling it is too late.
