Digg in the early era of the internet was one of the most popular and visited sites in following and discovering new links every day. Digg was originally launched in 2004, before being sold to Betaworks around 2012, and after that it has declined in popularity and disappeared. Last year, Digg founder Kevin Rose announced that he had bought Digg back, and they subsequently relaunched it in early 2026 in beta form.
However, now only about 2 months later, Digg announced the closure of operations, and a number of employees were laid off. The website and application also stopped operating, and its main page now only displays a notice that it will be back.
Digg stated that after the relaunch, they faced problems with spam and bots on their service. A number of bots were also said to spam the service in order to get backlinks to strengthen their position on Google, as well as for search engine optimization (SEO) purposes.
Anyway, Digg says they will be back. In fact, starting April 2026, Kevin Rose, the original founder of Digg, will join the team full-time in building the new Digg. With this development, we will all look forward to whether Digg will make a successful comeback, or not.
