Google Maps Updated with Ask Maps and More Realistic Navigation Visualization

Google Maps was updated yesterday with several improvements powered by Gemini and a more realistic and immersive navigation display. Now starting with the Ask Maps feature that gives users the power to ask Maps what is interesting in the area currently viewed on the map.

With Ask Maps users can ask using common language such as “where to charge an EV in this area” or “are there public signs nearby?”. Maps will provide relevant answers using data from 300 million locations collected from 500 million users.

After receiving the answer, users can then make a direct reservation (if it is a restaurant), save the location, share the location and start navigating to go. This feature is accessible to users in the United States and India first through the Android and iOS applications.

Next is the Immersive Navigation feature that provides a 3D navigation display. Buildings, overpasses and landforms in the map resemble real-world situations. In addition, every lane, pedestrian crossing, traffic lights and signs are also clearly displayed. The navigation voice is also more natural so it doesn't sound robotic now.

There are also real-time alerts for accidents or traffic jams. When arriving at a building, directions to the side of the building to the parking space are also displayed more clearly. Immersive Navigation is currently only available to users in the United States, accessible via Android, iOS, CarPlay, Android Auto, and cars with Google's built-in system.
