Google today announced that it will reduce the cut from every payment on the Play Store and officially open the Registered App Stores program that supports third-party app stores on Android.
This action was taken to resolve the dispute with Epic Games that caused Fortnite to be removed from the Play Store. With today's announcement, Google will only take a 20% cut from every transaction in the Play Store. This is a reduction from the 30% it previously took. For recurring payments, a lower cut of 10% is taken instead of the previous 15%.
Through the Registered App Stores program, third-party stores like the Epic Games Store are finally officially supported. Store owners can offer their own payments outside of the Google ecosystem.
The new Play Store payment rates and third-party store support will arrive on the dates below by country.
By June 30, 30 – Europe, United Kingdom and United States.
By September 30 – Australia
By December 31, 31 – Korea and Japan.
By September 30, 2027 – Worldwide.
