A few days ago, Meta announced that they would end support for accessing Horizon Worlds using the Meta Quest headset. This caused the VR mode of this metagame to be buried with it only being accessible on Android and iOS device screens in two dimensions.
But two days later, Meta CTO Andrew Bosworth has now said that the plan to stop the Horizon Worlds VR mode on June 15, 2026 is no longer being pursued in an AMA session on Instagram. According to him, this is after listening to feedback from users who want to continue accessing Horizon Worlds in VR mode. At the same time, Meta currently does not plan to develop more Horizon World games for VR.
How long this VR mode will be supported is a mystery because Meta has already closed the VR game development studio for Meta Quest. Thousands of employees have been laid off to focus on artificial intelligence (AI) and the development of the smart glasses platform.
The cancellation of the intention to stop the VR mode is seen as reducing the negative impact on Meta, which has spent tens of billions of dollars over the past five years into the metagame world only to see it fail.
