Mark Zuckerberg has been focusing on the artificial intelligence arena lately, including in acquiring talent, including buying companies like Manus to strengthen their position in this arena. However, one of the challenges that Meta is still struggling to solve at the moment is the development of their own artificial intelligence model.
Last year, it was said that Meta was developing a new, more powerful model codenamed “Avocado”. The model at that time was more powerful than Gemini 2.5 and several other models. However, after Gemini 3.0 was introduced last November, Meta was seen to be lagging behind again, and has now postponed the introduction of this “Avocado” model to May.
As an alternative, it is said that internal developers suggested that Meta license the Gemini model to power their AI products. However, there is no final word regarding this step so far.
Previously, Apple also faced challenges in developing their own AI model, and also licensed their model from Google.
