Vivo V70 Review – Consistent, Stylish and Practical

The Vivo V70 is the successor to the V series, which was previously known for its balance between performance, camera, and elegant design. Although it doesn’t bring drastic changes compared to the V60, this model still offers several improvements that make it more relevant for daily use.

With a better display, the new OriginOS 6 operating system, and support for AI-based smart features, the V70 tries to maintain its reputation as a practical phone. This article will examine the V70’s user experience, including its advantages and disadvantages, to give readers a clear picture.

Usage Experience

The V70 comes with a stylish boxy design, neat flat sides, and a matte glass panel that is soft to the touch. Despite its premium appearance, the back surface is quite smooth, so it is safer to use with a protective case.

vivo V70

The aerospace-grade aluminum construction provides solid durability, while the glossy finish adds a premium feel. The floating camera module with a square shape adds a modern touch, while the light reflection on its surface creates an elegant and captivating effect

The carefully rounded corners make the grip more comfortable, especially when used for long periods of time. At the same time, the fingerprint and smudge-resistant finish helps maintain a clean look, although its slippery nature still requires attention. In terms of experience, this design reminds me of the V23 which also comes with a boxy body, but without the color-changing back panel.

vivo V70

When compared to the V60, the difference is clear because the previous model comes with a more curved and thinner design. However, the change towards a boxy design is actually in line with the current trend in the smartphone industry. From daily use, it is still comfortable to hold and does not affect the overall experience, making it an adjustment that is easily accepted by most users.

vivo V60

A total of three color options are offered for the V70. The unit I used is Gold. This color is inspired by the golden hour atmosphere with the rays of the evening sun. It looks very attractive, especially when hit by a beam of light that highlights the pastel orange gradient color like sunlight. Subtle, subtle lines also decorate the back of the device. The design becomes more unique with this touch.

vivo V70

For me, the Gold color is quite striking and suitable for users who like cheerful choices. This color gives a fresh aura that exudes confidence. For those who prefer a classic style, there are still two other options available, namely Gray and Black. Both bring a timeless character. This color is also easy to match with various styles and is suitable for all types of users.

The screen design on the V70 has also undergone changes with a new size of 6.59 inches. For the record, Vivo previously used a 6.77-inch screen on the V60 and V50 models. This change may have been made because the curved body is considered more balanced with large-sized devices.

vivo V70

The boxy body is also more suitable for the new size which is slightly more compact. Despite the size change, there is no time to get used to it. The screen is still within the standard range for most devices in the same class on the market.

Next, there is no change in the screen technology used. Vivo still maintains the 1.5K AMOLED panel with a refresh rate of 120Hz. This shows that Vivo is trying to provide consistent technological support for users.

There is no need for them to increase the refresh rate to 144Hz or 165Hz because the main focus of the V series is more on the camera and design comfort. The 120Hz rate is sufficient for most daily uses. It also provides smooth performance without any lag issues when used for multitasking or scrolling through applications.

The button and port layout on the V70 still maintains the standard position like several previous Vivo devices. The right side houses the power button and audio rocker that feels solid when pressed. The bottom houses the USB-C port, speaker and SIM slot. The top is accompanied by an infrared and microphone hole. There are no additional buttons or ports. This layout makes it consistent with the previous generation.

In terms of usage experience, the audio performance is at a sufficient level for daily use. It may not provide maximum satisfaction, but it is good enough for watching videos, listening to music or following your favorite drama. The fingerprint scanner also works quickly and reliably. This feature is consistent with Vivo's reputation, which has long been known for its robust fingerprint scanning technology.

vivo V70

In addition, with an IP68/IP69 rating, this device provides protection from water and dust, thus adding confidence to use outdoors. The VC smart cooling system also helps maintain the device's temperature more stable, especially when playing games for long periods or doing heavy multitasking.

Internal Hardware – Snapdragon 7 Gen 4 Chip

The V70 uses the Snapdragon 7 Gen 4 chip paired with 12GB of RAM and 512GB of internal storage. Just like last year’s V60, there are no changes in terms of processor chip or storage capacity. This offering has been seen as standard for most of Vivo’s premium devices in recent years. However, this chip is still capable of delivering good performance for everyday use.

During this usage, there were no issues for normal activities like scrolling through social media, opening apps or typing messages. It may not be the fastest in its class, but it is still sufficient for daily use. In terms of thermal management, the Snapdragon 7 Gen 4 chip performs satisfactorily. It can be said that there are no significant heating issues. When running benchmark tests repeatedly with three different types of tests, the device only felt slightly warm without causing discomfort.

When compared to the V60, the user experience feels almost the same because both share the same chip and memory capacity. More significant differences can only be seen in the display and operating system aspects. The V70 comes with a higher resolution and the newer Android 16 compared to Android 15 on the V60.

In addition, the Honor of Kings gaming experience also shows the advantages of this chip. The game can reach 120FPS frames at the highest settings. Movement feels smooth without any lag problems. Character animations are also displayed well and make the controls more enjoyable. Although this chip is not the most powerful in its class, it still provides stable and satisfactory performance for daily use and gaming.

vivo V70

In the current market, the closest competitors to the V70 are the Oppo Reno15 Pro and Realme GT 7. Both offer specifications that are almost equivalent to the latest processing chip, AMOLED displays with a refresh rate of 120Hz, as well as competitive camera systems. The Realme GT 7 uses the Dimensity 9400e chip with a brighter LTPO AMOLED display. The Oppo Reno15 Pro, on the other hand, retains the Snapdragon 7 Gen 4 as the performance foundation.

Overall, the experience of using the V70 feels consistent and stable. It may not bring major changes compared to the V60, but the improvements in the display, operating system and gaming performance make it more relevant and able to compete with its closest competitors in the mid-premium segment. Vivo has also increased update support to four major Android upgrades.

Internal Software – OriginOS 6 (Android 16)

The big change in the V70 lies in the internal software which now uses OriginOS 6. This system replaces the previously used FuntouchOS. In terms of experience, it feels the same as the one I reviewed on the X300 without many noticeable differences. However, there are several new features in OriginOS 6 that make this system more efficient.

Among the new features in OriginOS 6 is Lossless App Compression which can save up to 20GB of storage space. It also supports automatic RAM Expansion up to 12GB for a smoother user experience. In addition, this system comes with AI Retouch capabilities that offer various smart functions.

Functions such as AI Eraser allow users to erase unwanted subjects, AI Ultra HD improves image quality, AI Image Expander expands the image frame by up to 200% while AI Color Adjustment gives the option to change the color tone to either warm or cold. However, this AI Retouch feature requires users to log in to a Vivo account first before it can be fully accessed.

In addition, the camera also receives an upgrade through the new Peel-Apart Film function. This feature imitates the classic movie experience with an easy-to-understand sound effect, as if physically opening a sheet of film. It features a soft retro tone to produce portraits with a unique style that is more luminous and provides an attractive aesthetic touch.

Interestingly, there is also an AI Flip Card feature that functions as an AI-based interactive card. This card can be used as a wallpaper with support for up to four images, and at the same time displays important updates such as weather and other information. This makes the user experience more practical and enjoyable. In addition, the unit I used came with a Zigha wallpaper, which gives an extra special touch especially for those who are interested in the figure.

One thing I like about OriginOS 6 is the way it displays the application download process. Different from the usual lines, this system uses a looped shape to show how far the application is being downloaded. Although simple, it gives an interesting visual touch and makes the experience more user-friendly.

vivo V70

Overall, the experience of using the V70 feels consistent and stable. Although there are no major changes in terms of chip and capacity compared to the V60, the improvements in the display, operating system and new smart features make it more enjoyable to use in 2026. Furthermore, update support for up to four major Android upgrades ensures that this device remains relevant for a longer period.

Camera and Photo Performance

The camera on the V70 still maintains good basic functions, but the zoom quality has slightly decreased compared to the previous model although not too noticeable. The colors produced are still consistent as in the previous generation. For backlight photos at dusk, the best results can only be achieved when the sky is truly orange, thus creating a more interesting atmosphere.

In daily use, the Vivid mode produces brighter but still controlled colors, suitable for images with many colorful elements. The ZEISS mode, on the other hand, provides a more natural and slightly dull color tone, while the Texture mode produces darker and sharper colors, suitable for street photography. In terms of lenses, the telephoto camera still works well, but the 8MP ultra-wide lens is considered a weak point because the results are less striking than the other components.

When using portrait mode, the quality is still on par with the V60 but the edge detection is now better. The bokeh effect is still attractive, but sometimes less striking and inconsistent. Among the most satisfying is the use of the 85mm lens for portraits, which is often called the Gold Focal Length because it produces a more natural facial perspective.

The AI Weather function adds interesting effects with backgrounds of various seasons. Although the results clearly appear to be AI processing, it still provides unique added value. Skin tones are warmer, making portraits look more vibrant and realistic.

For night mode, noise is still present but not too noticeable. Lighting is well controlled, while the issues of blooming and flare are not so prominent. The recording results look neater and more pleasing to the eye.

Overall, the experience of using this device's camera is consistent. It comes with small improvements that make the results more consistent without affecting the comfort of ordinary users. This camera may not be the most perfect, but it is still able to provide a satisfactory photography experience for daily use.

Battery And Charging

In daily use, the V70 is able to last up to a full day or even longer even when used intensively for browsing, social media, and multimedia viewing. Throughout my experience, playing HOK on high settings for about 40 minutes showed that the battery consumption rate was still under control, thus proving that the Snapdragon 7 Gen 4 chip is quite efficient in balancing performance and power consumption.

During my experience with the V70, the device was able to deliver around 7 to 8 hours of Screen-On Time (SOT) depending on usage patterns, which is more than enough for most active users. Although it doesn’t support wireless charging, Vivo is focusing entirely on wired charging at 100W and the charging process feels fast. The battery can be charged from 0 to 100% in a short time, making it suitable for those who don’t want to wait long for charging.

What’s in the Box for the Vivo V70?

1 x Vivo V70.

1 x 90W Charger Head.

1 x USB-A to USB-C Cable.

1 x Silicone Case.

1 x User Manual.

1 x SIM Ejector.

Conclusion

Overall, the V70 is a smartphone that offers a consistent and stable user experience. Although it doesn't bring major changes compared to the V60, it still comes with an improved display, OriginOS 6, and various AI-based smart features that make the experience more enjoyable. The camera also still maintains good performance with some minor improvements although there is still room for improvement.

vivo V70

The same goes for the chip selection that feels like it may need to be improved to provide more advantages in the future. With support for updates to up to four Android upgrades, the V70 is still able to guarantee that this device will remain relevant for a longer period, although not up to seven years like some other manufacturers.

The V70 is suitable for users who want a phone with a stable and smooth daily experience, those who appreciate a high-quality display and a new operating system with smart AI features, and also casual photography enthusiasts who want consistent color results, good portrait mode, and unique additional features such as AI Retouch or Peel-Apart Film.

On the other hand, the V70 may not be suitable for those looking for a high-quality ultra-wide camera or a truly robust zoom system, users who want a big jump in terms of chips and capacity compared to the previous model, and users who need results comparable to flagship cameras.
