Smart Glasses Rental Service for Exam Cheating Offered in China

In dystopian science fiction, technology is used by authorities to oppress through facial recognition and social credit systems. Many look to China to see predictions come true, just as the world looked to Japan for a cyberpunk future in the 1980s. But in China, technology is now being used to cheat in exams.

According to a report by Rest of The World, smart glasses rental services are offered in China to help students answer English and Math exam questions. Smart glasses from Meta, Rokid and Ali Baba can be rented for just $6-$12 per day.

The use of artificial intelligence (AI) technology for cheating has become an issue in the past few years. Last year, Bytedance, Tencent, DeepSeek and Ali Baba temporarily suspended their AI chatbots during the gaokao university entrance exam to prevent cheating.

In the United States, several companies have returned to conducting face-to-face employee interviews to ensure that they are not using AI to answer questions.
