Sony and Honda Halt Development of AFEELA EV

Sony Honda Mobility officially canceled the development of the AFEELA 1 electric car and another AFEELA model today. Honda's decision to change its EV strategy by canceling the development of the Honda 0 SUV, Honda 0 Saloon and Acura RSX has made it difficult for Sony and Honda to continue their collaboration in Sony Honda Mobility. Honda is responsible for vehicle production, so the change in strategy has a direct impact on the project's survival.

Not much information about the specifications of the AFEELA 1 has been shared by Sony even though the project has been in development since 2020 under the Sony Vision-S concept. They only said that each vehicle is equipped with 40 sensors, comes with 800 TOPS processing capacity and will use the Tesla Supercharging charging network.

It also comes with AFEELA Intelligent Drive which provides Level 2 self-driving capabilities and ADAS. The entertainment system supports Amazon Music, Audible and Spotify. Meanwhile, the vehicle's in-car graphics and sound system was developed by Polyphony Digital, which developed the Gran Turismo video game.

The AFEELA 1 Origin is priced at $89,900 (~RM 356,453) and the AFEELA 1 Signature is priced at $102,900 (~RM 407,998). The Signature was originally expected to arrive in the hands of buyers in mid-2026 while the Origin will start in 2027.

Sony Honda Mobility confirmed that customers who pre-ordered the AFEELA 1 will receive a full refund. Sony Honda Mobility will continue discussions with Sony and Honda regarding its future business plans.
