Accenture has acquired Ookla, the company behind Speedtest, Downdetector, RootMetrics and Ekahau, from Ziff Davis for $1.2 billion in cash. Ookla’s technology will be used by Accenture to support smart home analytics, utilities, optimize Wi-Fi and 5G networks and improve fraud prevention in the financial sector.
The acquisition strengthens Accenture’s position in network analytics, AI and infrastructure services. Speedtest processes 250 million user tests per month with network data used by telcos, regulators, journalists and analytics companies.
Downdetector, meanwhile, is used by banks, streaming and social media platforms and communications providers to quickly detect outages.
