Trump Considers Allowing Tencent to Own Stakes in Epic Games and Supercell

US President Donald Trump is reportedly considering whether to allow Tencent to own stakes in video game firms in the US and Finland

It is said that the Trump administration is assessing whether Tencent's holdings and investments in the US pose a security threat or not. Various meetings are scheduled to discuss the matter.

Tencent owns 28% of US-based Epic Games and 84% of Finland-based Supercell. Through this ownership, they are indirectly involved in the publishing of popular games Fortnite, Clash of Clans, League of Legends, COD Mobile and Honor of Kings.

Tencent has also recently established a new subsidiary Vantage Studios with Ubisoft to publish Assassin's Creed, Far Cry, and Tom Clancy's Rainbow Six. The new company is valued at €4 billion (~RM 19.13 billion) with Tencent investing €1.16 billion (~RM 5.55 billion) to hold a 25% stake in the company.

This security risk assessment was carried out before President Trump and Xi held a two-way meeting to discuss the diplomatic relations between the two countries, which have been turbulent since the Joe Biden administration.
