Malaysia is seen shifting its electricity generation from coal and gas liquids to more sustainable sources such as hydro and solar. Today, local mechanical and electrical engineering services provider ES Sunlogy Berhad has completed the opening of a photovoltaic solar farm with an output capacity of 29.9MWac in Kulim, Kedah.
The photovoltaic solar farm is named Selarong Pertama Energy and is being developed by a joint venture between Selarong Pertama Energy Sdn Bhd, a joint venture between Savelite Engineering Sdn Bhd, a subsidiary of ES Sunlogy Berhad, Blazing Solar Sdn. Bhd, a wholly-owned subsidiary of Solarvest Holdings Berhad and TNB Renewables Sdn. Bhd, a subsidiary of Tenaga Nasional. It is also being built under the Malaysian Corporate Green Power Programme (“CGPP”).
The electricity generated by the solar farm will be supplied virtually to Micron Memory Malaysia Sdn. Bhd. in Penang under a long-term Corporate Green Power Agreement (“CGPA”), and combined with Renewable Energy Certificates (“REC”) for a period of 21 years.
The opening of this new solar farm also allows Micron to continue to manufacture and package its memory components with 100 percent reliance on the sustainable energy they have been using to date. Micron also has its own sustainable energy generation equipment through solar equipment at its Batu Kawan factory in Penang.
