IKEA products are now compatible with Samsung SmartThings and can be connected directly without the need for an additional hub. This means that users can connect devices such as smart lights and plugs directly to SmartThings more easily. The integration uses Matter-over-Thread technology, a combination of Matter’s global standards to ensure that devices from different brands can communicate over the stable and low-power Thread network protocol.
Previously, users needed an IKEA hub and a SmartThings hub to connect the two networks. Now, IKEA devices can be directly connected to the SmartThings hub, simplifying the setup and use process. With this support, users can not only control IKEA devices through the SmartThings app but also integrate them with other Samsung appliances such as TVs, air conditioners and washing machines.
A total of 25 IKEA devices can now be used with the Samsung SmartThings ecosystem, including smart light bulbs, plugs, remote controls, temperature and humidity sensors, air quality sensors and motion sensors. For example, users can connect IKEA door sensors to SmartThings and place them on frequently used doors. Through the Family Care function, it allows monitoring of parents' daily activities such as when they start their morning routine, providing an easy way to check on their loved ones even when they live far away.
In addition, IKEA air quality sensors and temperature and humidity sensors are installed to collect data such as temperature, humidity and brightness levels in the room. SmartThings then compares the readings with the recommended range for optimal sleep and generates a report with practical recommendations. Please note that availability may vary by market.
