iPhone Ultra Production Tests Have Begun for Launch This Year

Apple's first foldable phone, believed to be called the iPhone Ultra, is reportedly undergoing production testing with the goal of going on sale this year. According to information leaked from China, this test will identify issues that exist with the device when it is first marketed.

The iPhone Ultra is expected to be announced alongside the iPhone 18 and iPhone 18 Pro in September. Apple has long been rumored to launch a foldable iPhone that when opened becomes a tablet the size of an iPad Mini.

The issue of the device being thick and the screen having lines has caused Apple to wait for these issues to be resolved. We have already seen this year's Oppo Find N6 and Honor Magic V6 both launched with screens without folding effects and thin bodies.

Based on previous information, the iPhone Ultra may come with a 5.5″ outer screen and a 7.8″ inner screen. The inner screen will have a 4:3 ratio with the body only 4.5mm thick when opened. Because it is a first-generation device, it is rumored that the iPhone Fold will only be equipped with dual cameras. The camera bump is similar to the one used on the iPhone Air.

Meanwhile, a Nikkei Asia report claims that Apple has discovered some issues with early production devices. This could mean that the iPhone Ultra will only be sold from December 2026 to address the issues that have arisen first.
