Meta Will Record Employees' Mouse and Keyboard Movements to Train AI

Meta will begin recording the mouse movements and keyboard keys of its employees in the United States for the purpose of training its artificial intelligence (AI) model, according to a Reuters report. The Model Capability Initiative (MCI) software is used for this purpose and will also periodically take screenshots of employees' computers when using work applications and software.

The data from the MCI will then enable an autonomous AI system to be developed to take over the tasks of human workers in the future. AI models that can replace human workers are among the most actively developed by AI companies because they can generate revenue through business customers.

Meta's action to record mouse movements and keyboard usage raises questions about employee privacy in the workplace in addition to opening up ethical questions as employees are currently training AI agents that can take over their tasks.

Meta will reportedly lay off 8,000 employees in May as part of an initiative to reduce costs and optimize the number of employees. Among the employees who will lose their jobs are those involved in the development of the metagame world and marketing.
