WeChat, one of the most popular apps in China, and also has a large user base in Malaysia, has now announced the expansion of WeChat Pay with DuitNow QR support in Malaysia. With this move, existing WeChat Pay users from China can continue to scan the DuitNow QR code in Malaysia and make payments.
Apart from Malaysia, WeChat Pay has also now started supporting universal payment codes in Thailand, Singapore, Sri Lanka, and South Korea. This makes it easier for WeChat Pay users to continue using the same digital wallet when on vacation or working abroad.
For your information, WeChat Pay was previously ready to offer services in Malaysia, before they reduced their focus on the local market. With this integration move, it is expected to further facilitate Chinese tourists to Malaysia, while enabling cross-platform payments easily and without the hassle of having to deal with the needs of various different digital wallets.
