Paynet: 8.44 Billion Cashless Transactions Processed in Malaysia in 2025

Payments Network Malaysia Sdn Bhd or (PayNet), the company behind many of the digital financial technologies used in Malaysia, recently announced that it processed 8.44 billion cashless transactions in 2025.

The increase was driven by increasing adoption among banks, non-bank institutions, businesses and consumers. The transactions recorded covered a variety of daily uses including retail purchases, transportation, money transfers between individuals and small business transactions, indicating that digital payments have now become part of the people's daily routine.

The number of transactions by banks increased by 30.69 percent year-on-year, while transactions by non-bank institutions recorded a growth of 71.7 percent year-on-year, reflecting an increasingly diverse and inclusive payments ecosystem.

This increase in transaction volume contributed to an average of 6.3 million transactions per day compared to 2024, with digital payment activity seen more prominently during the festive season and year-end holidays.

This increase was also driven by the higher number of locations supporting the cashless payment system. In 2025, a total of 681,250 new DuitNow QR acceptance points were introduced, including 267,780 among micro, small and medium enterprises (MSMEs), bringing the total number of registered touchpoints nationwide to over three million locations across Malaysia.

Paynet also said that the most significant increase in cashless transactions was recorded in Terengganu, Kelantan and Kedah, with the number of transactions in rural areas increasing threefold year-on-year, indicating widespread adoption across all walks of life.
