Xbox Game Pass subscription allows Xbox game console owners to play video games without having to buy the game. This allows them to try out many types of games first before they buy them, or play them all in full without having to buy anything.
Initially, Xbox Game Pass subscription was seen as cheap enough for anyone to try it, but late last year, the subscription price has increased, with PC Game Pass subscription also, which is a subscription to computer games that can be downloaded through the Microsoft Store offered in Malaysia, being increased to RM25 per month.
Recently, new Xbox CEO, Asha Sharma has reportedly sent a memo to the Xbox division and said that Xbox subscriptions are now seen as too expensive by many Xbox customers, where Game Pass now comes in three subscription levels, including Essentials at $9.99, Premium at $14.99 and Ultimate at $29.99 per month.
The Ultimate subscription in particular previously came with a much cheaper price tag, and gave access to other services such as PC Game Pass and Xbox Cloud Gaming.
The memo also seems to have given some indication that Xbox will offer a new subscription plan that is more affordable. and is expected to offer users much better value than what is currently available.
In the memo shown, Asha also stated the short-term and long-term plans for the subscription. For the near future, his plan seems to be to introduce a more affordable subscription plan, and for the long term, he wants to make the Xbox Game Pass subscription a more flexible subscription and allow customers to subscribe to what they want to use through Game Pass.
In Malaysia, only PC Game Pass is offered at the moment. Xbox game consoles can be purchased, but accounts and subscriptions will need to be done through accounts registered in other countries because the Xbox and Xbox Game Pass services are not officially offered in Malaysia.
