The Aerotrain service at Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA) Terminal 1 will resume 24-hour operations by the end of this month, Transport Minister Anthony Loke said yesterday. According to him, Malaysia Airports Holdings Bhd (MAHB) has completed all Aerotrain tests with a report being prepared for the Land Public Transport Agency (APAD).
The Aerotrain resumed full operations on July 1 last year after a two-year hiatus for the upgrade process. But less than three days later, various issues emerged with services being disrupted frequently. As a mitigation measure, Aerotrain services were stopped during off-peak hours to undergo daily maintenance.
The Aerotrain was originally scheduled to cease operations in March 2023 due to various breakdown issues as it was too old. It began operations in 1998 by connecting the main terminal with satellite terminal A.
In its 25-year history of operation, there have been several incidents of breakdowns that caused operations to be temporarily halted. Since operations to go to satellite terminal A were halted, regular passengers have to take buses while luxury vehicle services are offered for business class passengers.
