BYD Launches Self-Designed Level 4 Self-Driving Chip – Xuanji A3

After mastering battery technology, BYD is now entering the era of self-producing smart chips that power their vehicle self-driving systems. The Xuanji A3 chip is self-designed by BYD and is also the first self-driving chip designed by a Chinese company.

It uses 4nm technology and when paired with the God’s Eye ADAS system provides Level 3 and Level 4 self-driving capabilities. The three chips are combined for the Xuanji A3, providing 2,100 TOPS of processing power. According to BYD CEO Wang Chuanfu, this chip is ready for mass production and is used in BYD vehicles.

Unlike other manufacturers that rely on external suppliers, BYD develops almost all vehicle components in-house, including this chip itself. This gives BYD a cost advantage and the ability to accelerate the development of new technologies

At GTC earlier this year, BYD, along with Geely and Nissan, were among the first companies to use NVIDIA DRIVE Hyperion’s Level 4 self-driving platform. It is unknown whether they will continue to experiment with the NVIDIA platform or use both to develop a more powerful system.
