Garmin Forerunner 70 and Forerunner 170 Available in Malaysia Starting at RM 1119



Garmin has launched two new watch options, the Forerunner 70 and Forerunner 170 in Malaysia. Both come with a focus on a more complete running experience while offering smart features for an active lifestyle.


The Forerunner 70 is equipped with a 1.2-inch AMOLED screen with touch controls and five physical buttons. The built-in running feature is supported by GPS for distance, time and pace. Wrist-based metrics support includes cadence, stride length and ground contact time. In addition, it offers heart rate monitoring, HRV, daily exercise recommendations and training plans via Garmin Coach.


It also supports over 80 types of exercises, route planning and race predictions. Smart functions include Morning Report, Evening Report, Body Battery, smart notifications, LiveTrack and Google Maps directions for Android users. Its estimated battery life can reach 13 days of normal use or 16 hours in full GNSS mode.


The Forerunner 170 uses a 1.2″ AMOLED screen (390 x 390 pixels) but no longer supports buttons and area calculation functions like the previous model. Instead, this watch is improved with over 50 exercise modes, equipped with a gyroscope and new software features such as Smart Wake Alarm, Garmin Fitness Coach and Shortcuts.


In terms of battery, it can last up to 19 days in power saving mode, 10 days in smartwatch mode and 14 hours in full GNSS mode. In addition, this watch offers 5 ATM resistance along with advanced training metrics and recovery guidance including pace, distance and heart rate.


The training function is also enhanced with daily exercise recommendations that adapt to performance, personal training plans through Garmin Coach that change according to health level and goals. Then, HRV monitoring helps understand health and recovery through heart rate variations during sleep.


There are also advanced training features such as Training Readiness, Training Status and Training Effect that add a dimension of performance control. It also allows users to download Spotify playlists directly to the watch in addition to the ability to make cashless payments via Garmin Pay.


In Malaysia, both are listed as upcoming with prices starting at RM1,199 for the Forerunner 70, RM1,349 for the Forerunner 170 and RM1,549 for the Forerunner 170 Music.
