Car lights initially used oil and carbide at the end of the 19th century. This then changed to electric lights in 1908 before changing again to halogen in 1962 and now HID has been the choice since its introduction in 1993. With China now becoming an automotive superpower, car lighting innovation is now introduced by Huawei with the XPixel lighting system.
Huawei XPixel car lights have a unique feature that can emit images like a projector. In XPixel, the image emitted is in color with the same technology previously only emitting monochrome images. When turned on, it can produce a 100″ image in front of the car.
It may sound like a gimmick but XPixel has a practical feature that displays navigation directions when driving at night. With the RGB lighting system, the light can be matched according to situations such as when it rains or foggy conditions. It can also be used to communicate with other drivers or pedestrians.
The first car to use XPixel lights is the latest Aito M9 model which will be launched soon. Projector car lights are not a new innovation as they were pioneered by Mercedes with the Digital Light system used on the Mercedes-Maybach S-Class.
