The MediaTek Dimensity 8550 mid-range chip has been announced as an improvement over the Dimensity 85000 with an emphasis on better on-device AI model performance.
It is manufactured using TSMC N4P 4nm technology with eight CPU cores. The CPU configuration is 1× Cortex‑A725 3.4GHz, 3× Cortex‑A725 3.2GHz and 4× Cortex‑A725 2.2GHz paired with a Mali‑G720 MC8 GPU. The NPU880 has an LLM Booster feature allowing it to support the Google Gemini Nano V3 model.
Devices with this chip support LPDDR5X 9600Mbps memory and UFS 4.0 storage. In addition, it is equipped with a 5G modem, Wi‑Fi 6E, and Bluetooth 5.4. The supported cameras are up to 320MP or 32MP tri-camera. The first smartphone with the Dimensity 8550 is the Honor 600 Pro for the Chinese market.
