Meta Update Helps Parents Understand Teen Content and Algorithms

Meta is updating its teen supervision functionality to make it easier for parents to manage and monitor their children's activities across Meta apps, including Instagram and Facebook. The update also improves Instagram's algorithm and provides a clear picture of topics that are appropriate for teens.

Among the improvements introduced are new tools for parents where Meta has added specific features to help them understand the Instagram algorithm for teens and the topics that shape the content they see. Furthermore, through Family Center, all parental controls for Instagram, Meta Horizon, Facebook and Messenger are now combined into one control center for easy management without having to switch between apps.

Furthermore, there are new interest notifications that allow parents to receive notifications when teens add new interests to their algorithm, for example, photography or sports, so that they can better understand the changes in content that appear. In addition, teen account protection is also tightened with automatic privacy settings and age-appropriate content controls (13+).

Not to mention, there is also a settings facility that allows parents to send an invitation to supervise teen accounts across all Meta apps more easily. This update is being rolled out globally in stages.
