The artificial intelligence (AI) company says its chatbot is the best and everyone on Earth should use it to ensure a bright future. But the subscriptions offered are still too expensive, especially in developing countries. This week, OpenAI announced that it is giving away a year of ChatGPT Plus subscriptions for free to Maltese citizens.
This is the first time OpenAI has offered a free subscription, following in the footsteps of Google in India and the Singapore government, which offer it to citizens aged 25 and over. Malta’s Minister of Economy, Silvio Schembri, said that Malta wants its citizens to be “at the forefront of global change” in the digital age.
To redeem the free subscription, Maltese citizens simply need to complete an AI course developed by the University of Malta, covering AI fundamentals and responsible use at home or work, and have an active EU eID account.
