Sony announced their financial report for Q4 of fiscal year 2025 this morning and confirmed that the PlayStation 5 console has sold 93.7 million units. Another 1.5 million PS5s were sold in Q4 2025, which is actually a 46% decrease in sales compared to the same quarter of fiscal year 2024.
The PS5 is currently ranked as the 8th highest-selling console in the world and is still targeted to sell over 100 million units over its lifetime. Although sales are slowing down, the delay of the PlayStation 6 due to the RAM and storage crisis is expected to boost sales of the PS5, which is almost 6 years old. It is still behind the Nintendo Wii (101.63 million) and the original PlayStation (102.49 million).
PS5 sales are down because it did not receive a sudden price cut like the PS4 after five years of sale. On the other hand, the console's selling price has been increased twice, with the new, more expensive price in Malaysia just announced a few weeks ago, effective from May 1.
