The Steam Controller went on sale on May 4th and quickly sold out, causing Valve's website to temporarily crash due to high traffic. After nearly two weeks on sale, Steam Controller buyers began to notice that the controller could scream if dropped.
It was first noticed by Reddit user RF3D19. His controller would scream like the Wilhelm Scream audio when dropped. Although the Steam Controller doesn't have a built-in speaker, the iconic scream used in various movies like Star Wars and Indiana Jones is produced by the controller's haptic motor.
The Steam Controller only screams if the device is using Steam Big Picture Mode and it doesn't happen all the time. After screaming, users have to wait up to a minute before the Steam Controller can scream.
