Steam Deck OLED Price Raised by $300 Due to RAM Crisis

Valve has announced a new retail price for its Steam Deck OLED console due to rising component and global logistics costs. This is a more palatable way of saying that the RAM and memory shortage crisis has caused the prices of these two components to skyrocket due to high demand from data centers.

The new retail price for the Steam Deck OLED is as follows. Valve also said that they will notify users if there are any further changes in the future. With memory supply expected to stabilize by the end of the year, price increases are sure to occur again between now and 2028.

Steam Deck OLED Models Old Price New Price Price Difference

512GB $549 (~RM2,415) $789 (~RM3,471) $240 (~RM952)

1TB $649 (~RM2,855) $949 (~RM4,175) $300 (~RM1191)

Valve is simply following the market trend with the prices of the PlayStation 5, Switch 2 and Legion Go 2 consoles also being increased by the manufacturers for the same reason. In addition to causing extreme price increases, the memory shortage has also caused the introduction of the new PlayStation 6 console and Steam Deck 2 to be temporarily delayed.
