The SynthID watermark was introduced by Google in 2023 and is embedded in images generated by generative artificial intelligence (AI). After several years of launch, SynthID will now also be supported by OpenAI, Kakao, ElevenLabs and NVIDIA on their AI-generated content.
With the watermarks enabled, Gemini can easily detect whether or not image, video and audio content is generated by generative AI. This can be done through the Gemini, Circle to Search and Gemini apps built into the Chrome browser.
Google is also adding verification for C2PA content authentication, to easily check whether the content is the original unmodified content from the camera or if it has been modified with information using any tool. The feature is rolling out in the Gemini app starting today, and it will be available for Search and Chrome in the coming months.
Speaking of C2PA, the Pixel 10 is the first device to support it, with Google set to add C2PA information to video content recorded using the Pixel 8, 9, and 10 in the coming weeks.
