The new update of Threads is seen to allow users to use the private message (DM) feature on the web version. This step is an interesting alternative after the DM feature was introduced on the mobile application almost a year ago. For now, the function is still in the testing phase involving a limited group of users to ensure that it works well before being expanded to more users in the near future.
Through this web version, users can access the Threads inbox by pressing the paper ship icon on the left side of the interface. All messages including message requests, search functions and options to start a conversation will be displayed there. Messages can also be shared with contacts via the “Send to” function found under each post.
Threads also maintains the same security controls as on its application where users can set who can send messages, whether only followed contacts or anyone publicly. Overall, the arrangement of this feature is indeed very similar to what X offers on their platform.
Threads informed that the DM feature on the web will be expanded to more countries for users aged 18 and above. In addition, tests for group chat functions and additional security controls will also be conducted in the future to improve the user experience.
