YouTube has had labels on videos generated by artificial intelligence (AI) since 2024, but they were not prominently displayed. Now, YouTube is bringing improvements where photorealistic or significantly altered content using AI is now displayed in a more prominent location.
On long videos, it is displayed Below the video player and above the description section. While on Shorts, it is shown in the video information label as shown in the image above. This label will be used on all AI-generated content on YouTube from now on. Meanwhile, content that is not realistic, animated or lightly modified using AI, the label is placed in the extended description.
Starting in May 2026, YouTube will detect photorealistic AI-generated content with a label that will then be automatically applied by its internal system. Content owners can correct the label if they feel that an error has been made by YouTube's system.
However, the label cannot be removed if the content was created using YouTube's AI tools such as Veo or Dream Screen, as well as Content with C2PA metadata that indicates that it was fully generated by AI.
