Brazil has become the third market after the European Union (EU) and Japan to accept support for third-party app stores on Apple devices. This comes after Apple reached an agreement with the Administrative Council for Economic Defense (CADE) to resolve a dispute after e-commerce giant Mercado Libre Group filed a complaint about the company's App Store rules.
Users in Brazil also have the option to make payments outside the App Store ecosystem through third parties or from app developer websites. Apple will still take a cut of each transaction, ranging from 10-26% depending on the platform the user chooses.
In addition to allowing third-party app stores to be accessible to Brazilian users, Apple is also opening up access for users in the country to set the default app store on their devices. All of these new features are only available on devices running iOS 26.5.
