The Artemis IV mission to the moon has been postponed to 2028, but the equipment that will be used is still being developed according to schedule. Yesterday, the astronaut underwear with a liquid-cooling system for the mission was shown to the public.
The Liquid Cooling and Ventilation Garment (LCVG), worn under the Axiom Extravehicular Mobility Unit (AxEMU) suit that will be used on the Artemis IV mission. It was designed by Axiom Space and Prada with a liquid system that absorbs body heat before it is released into space. Axiom Space's aerospace expertise is matched with Prada's experience and design skills in the use of fabrics to produce the LCVG.
It is made of high-performance fabrics for long-term mission durability. There is also a secondary cooling system in case the primary system fails. Finally, the LCVG also functions as a ventilation system that blows oxygen into the astronaut's lungs to remove carbon dioxide.
