At Computex, ASUS ROG Xbox Ally X20 was announced as an updated model for the ROG Xbox Ally in conjunction with the 20th anniversary of Xbox. The biggest change on this model is the use of a 7.4″ OLED screen instead of the 7″ LCD screen used on the previous two models. The result is a brighter screen, surpassing the DisplayHDR TrueBlack 1000 standard and supporting Dolby Vision.
In addition, the console body is now slightly glossy allowing the internal components to be seen. Another big change made is that the two analog control buttons are now equipped with TMR (Tunnel Magnetoresistance) sensors which solve the stick drift issue with the face button domes also redesigned for more comfortable holding. The D-Pad buttons can now be changed to 4-way or 8-way mode by rotating them 90 degrees. Finally, the Xbox button now lights up with a green light.
The console still uses the AMD Ryzen AI Z2 Extreme chip, 24GB LPDDR5X-8000 RAM, 1TB M.2 2280 SSD storage and an 80Wh battery. There is 1x USB-Thunderbolt 4, 1x USB 3.2 Gen 2 Type-C with DP 2.1, a UHS-II microSD card reader and a 3.5mm audio jack. The SSD storage is also user-replaceable. It is slightly heavier (756g) than the previous model (715g). There are no changes compared to the ROG Xbox Ally X that was launched in August last year.
The ROG Xbox Ally X20 is offered with the ROG Xreal R1 Edition 20 AR glasses that can display a 171” 240Hz virtual screen using micro‑OLED with a response time of 0.01ms. Due to the unresolved RAM crisis, ASUS has not announced the selling price of the ROG Xbox Ally X20.
