Rockstar Games is offering a free upgrade to Grand Theft Auto V (GTA V) for PlayStation 4 and Xbox One owners today. Through this offer, the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S versions can be played for free without having to purchase the game as before as long as the game is in digital form only.
The latest console version provides visual and performance improvements over the previous generation console version. All game data can also be transferred to the new version. In addition to players on consoles, GTA V players on PC also receive a free upgrade to the Enhanced Edition with higher graphics quality.
This move by Rockstar Games is seen as a sign that they may end GTA Online support for PS4/Xbox One, as happened with PS3/Xbox 360 in 2021. Although GTA VI will be launched on November 19, support for the 13-year-old GTA V will continue as it generates hundreds of millions of dollars for Take Two Interactive through GTA Online
