Yesterday, Midjourney teased the launch of their first physical product with the prediction that it would be a computer that could run their artificial intelligence models without having to be done in the cloud. All of these early predictions were wrong and instead, Midjourney Medical's new business was announced along with the Midjourney Scanner machine.
The Midjourney Scanner is an ultrasound machine that can scan the entire human body in 60 seconds. Much faster than the MRI machines used in hospitals. This ultrasonic scanning technology does not expose the body to radiation or high-power magnetic fields like CT and MRI machines.
Hundreds of thousands of audio transducers and microphones that are only 200 microns in size are used in a Midjourney Scanner. The high-frequency audio produced will scan the individual's body inside the machine and a high-resolution image will then be produced. A layer of body scan will be taken with the machine moving at a speed of 4 cm/s to scan the entire body. The data for each "slice" of the body is then collected to produce a complete 3D scan of the body.
Midjourney says the resulting 3D body scan images are accurate to within half a millimeter. Any anomalies in the body can be detected early.
Midjourney Medical says they will produce 50,000 scanners within 6 years and perform 1 billion body scans per month. A “Midjourney Spa” will open in late 2027 in San Francisco for the first customers.
At this time, the Midjourney Scanner is still just a 3D video with only the transducer shown to the public.
