The National AI Office, or better known as NAIO, is set to begin operating as an official institution starting July 28, 2026.
The announcement was made by Digital Minister Gobind Singh Deo who said that soon, NAIO will be given the authority to oversee and coordinate the development and governance of artificial intelligence (AI) in Malaysia.
“NAIO will be an institution that focuses on policy, governance and development of the AI ecosystem, as well as helping to produce talents and individuals who are capable of developing AI technology to realize Malaysia’s vision of being an AI Nation by 2030.”
The announcement was made during the launch of the Digital Realty Data Centre today. NAIO has been operating under the auspices of MyDIGITAL Corporation since 2024, and with the confirmation as an official government entity, the scope of the body’s operations will be further expanded, allowing them to make decisions regarding the national digitalization and artificial intelligence agenda.
