Netflix Now Requires Each Profile Under One Account to Have a Different Email to Log In

Until now, each Netflix account allowed up to 5 profiles to be created, which shared the same login information. However, Netflix has now begun to change how this operates.

Since June 15, 2026, Netflix has begun to introduce a phased update - where each profile will need to be linked to its respective email by the primary account holder. This also indirectly makes each profile owner on Netflix have their own login account, including being able to activate two-factor authentication to log in.

This change is only for regular profiles on Netflix, and does not apply to children's accounts.

Netflix has not officially stated why this change was made. Some speculation is that Netflix has now also started selling advertising to be included with their streaming in several countries, and by having a larger user base, they can track user interactions better, as well as target advertising more personalized. However, this is just initial speculation, and there is no official statement from Netflix at this time.
