Samsung has just launched its new UFS 5.0 storage technology. This chip is designed for use in mobile devices and offers higher speeds than the previous generation.
According to Samsung, UFS 5.0 is specifically developed to accelerate the processing of large language models (LLMs) and AI applications without relying on the cloud. With this improvement, AI-based applications, smart cameras and instant translation functions can operate faster and save energy, thus helping the phone's battery last longer.
UFS 5.0 can also read data up to 10.8GB/s and write up to 9.5GB/s. This performance makes it more than twice as fast as the older UFS 4.1 chip. In addition, this chip uses special technologies such as clock gating and multi-voltage that make it 40% more efficient and help the phone's battery last longer without sacrificing speed. UFS 5.0 also comes in a more compact size than its predecessor.
FS 5.0 also offers higher speeds than previous generations as it is built on the latest embedded memory standard from JEDEC. With greater bandwidth, devices can transfer and process large-sized data quickly.
As a result, AI-based applications are more responsive, multi-application usage runs smoother, and phones perform more efficiently to meet the needs of modern AI. Mass production is scheduled to begin in the fourth quarter of 2026 with capacities up to 1TB.
