Shopee is now laying off hundreds of developers at their company, expected to impact around 8% of employees in the development department. This move is due to the adaptation of artificial intelligence in developing new services.
In addition to involving the development department, Shopee is expected to lay off more employees in other departments.
Previously, various technology companies have also begun to choose to reduce their workforce, and use artificial intelligence to fill the gaps. This is also indirectly seen to help reduce operating costs.
The number of Malaysian employees affected by this change has not been disclosed at this time.
