Sony LYTIA 610 Launched – 64MP Sensor With New Pixel Design And 4K HDR Recording

Sony is now introducing the LYTIA 610, a new 1/2-inch smartphone camera sensor with a resolution of 64MP. This sensor is specifically designed to provide sharper images, faster autofocus and supports video recording up to 4K at 120fps.

It uses a unique design with a combination of RB 2×2 On Chip Lens (OCL) pixel arrangement which is the first in the industry. In this arrangement, Sony arranges the lenses for the pixels in a different way. The green pixel is given a special 1×1 lens because it greatly affects the sharpness of the image to make the image result clearer. Meanwhile, the red and blue pixels are combined under the 2×2 lens to support more accurate autofocus function. This means that Sony has managed to combine two important aspects in one sensor, namely image sharpness and autofocus speed. This innovation makes the LYTIA 610 not just a high-resolution sensor but smarter in the way it manages the pixels to produce consistent recordings.

The image quality is believed to be able to provide more than 20% image clarity compared to the previous generation even though the pixel size is still the same at 0.7μm. The data readout system can also be twice as fast as the previous generation. This sensor also supports 4K recording up to 120fps and 4K HDR 60fps making it suitable for use in various lighting conditions.

This capability also helps reduce the display difference between the main camera and the secondary camera in a multi-lens camera set, thus producing a more consistent recording experience. Mass production is scheduled to begin at the end of June.
