Huawei Pura 90S Pro and 90s Pro Max in Malaysia Support 5G Network and Android 16

Yesterday, the Huawei Pura 90S Pro and Huawei Pura 90S Pro Max were officially launched in Malaysia and globally. During yesterday's event, Huawei only touched on the flagship camera capabilities of the Pura 90s series and also the cellular performance which is up to 81% faster than previous Pura devices.

I was not able to try the cellular capabilities of these devices yesterday and only noticed that both devices support 5G networks in Malaysia. This is the first time since the Huawei P40 series that it can officially use 5G networks in Malaysia. We found that it can use the 5G networks of U Mobile and CelcomDigi without any issues. The VONR voice calling system is also enabled by default.

Technological constraints imposed by the United States have meant that Huawei has only been able to use 4G networks for several years. In China, 5G support will only return in 2023 with the Huawei Mate 60. Outside of China, exported devices remain 4G-only.

In addition to 5G, both phones also use the EMUI 16 operating system which is based on Android 16. Huawei previously developed HarmonyOS but when devices are sold outside of China, it is difficult to get compatible applications because they are different operating systems.
