Malaysia Targets 100% Internet Access in Populated Areas by 2027

The Ministry of Communications has now shared its target to achieve 100% internet access coverage in populated areas throughout Malaysia by 2027. This target is expected to be achieved under the implementation of the JENDELA plan which targets universal internet access in Malaysia.

As of the end of 2025, broadband coverage in populated areas had reached 99.71%. In continuing to ensure that all populated areas have internet access, the government is also integrating access through the use of 4G and 5G technology, in addition to internet transmission via satellite in rural areas.

Through this universal internet access, it not only helps in the economic sector, but also in terms of education and others. This move is also seen as in line with the government's target to continue to increase domestic income through the digital economy. Previously, the government has implemented a number of initiatives to reduce the cost of internet subscriptions, in addition to making it easier for users to switch to new generation devices.
