The Panasonic AVC Networks Kuala Lumpur Malaysia (PAVCKM) factory in Shah Alam will be completely closed by March 2027 and the closure is expected to affect about 400 employees. The factory has been the main production center for Panasonic televisions, Blu-ray players and Hi-Fi audio components under the Technics brand.
Accordingly, television production will be completely stopped in Malaysia by March 2027. Meanwhile, Blu-ray Disc player production will be transferred to Panasonic's factory in China (CHPAVC) by September 2026. At the same time, production of Technics-branded Hi-Fi audio products in Shah Alam will also be terminated by February 2027, and will subsequently be transferred to other operations within the Panasonic group. However, the new location for the production has not yet been announced and this raises questions about the long-term direction of Panasonic's strategy in the premium audio segment.
The closure of the PAVCKM factory is part of Panasonic's global strategy to strengthen the company's position in the market and improve the efficiency of manufacturing operations in Malaysia. At the same time, PAVCKM will work with authorities, government agencies, and the Electrical Industry Workers Union (EIWU) to ensure that affected workers receive appropriate assistance. This support includes helping them find new jobs, and providing retraining to better adapt to career opportunities after the factory closes.
