Study Finds Parents Addicted to Smartphones Make Children Less Successful in Life

This year there have been several scientific studies on smartphone use and its impact on society. In one study I read, the birth rate in the United States has dropped since the iPhone was introduced in 2007. The same trend has been seen in other countries in line with the increase in smartphone use.

This morning, a study published in the journal Frontiers in Psychology said that parents who are addicted to using their phones will cause their children to have less confidence, show a low sense of self, have difficulty having interpersonal and intimate relationships; and have a reluctance to take the risks needed to achieve success.

The study was conducted by a group of researchers from the American Psychological Association involving 600 participants aged between 12 -17 years in the United States. The children admitted to feeling marginalized or ignored by parents who are busy using their phones. In sports or theater activities, for example, children were disappointed when they saw parents who, even though they were present at the event, were bowed down using their phones.

Through this study, there is a negative impact of smartphone use by individuals on individuals around them. I can categorize myself as a father who is too attached to his laptop because of work. My son once scolded me for working all the time a few years ago, causing me to no longer work after office hours.
